European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights
(EIDHR).
The European Union is founded on the principles of liberty, democracy,
respect for human rights and the rule of law.
The European Initiative for Democracy
and Human Rights (EIDHR) was launched by the European Parliament in 1994 and
replaced by the new European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights
(EIDHR)
in 2007. The new EIDHR is a financial and policy instrument that seeks to
contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of
law and respect of all human rights and fundamental freedoms in third countries
worldwide. In pursuing this aim, the EIDHR strongly emphasises the role of
civil society organizations.
The global objective of this Call
for Proposals is to strengthen the role of civil society in promoting human
rights and democratic reform.
